David Walliams Gears Up For Stoke Newington Literary Festival

As book fans gear up for the Stoke Newington Literary Festival, Speakers Corner’s lettered finest polish off their radio mikes for the start of one of the newest festivals of the season. David Walliams, BBC presenter Dan Cruickshank, playwright Steven Berkoff , Alexei Sayle, Howard Marks and Stewart Lee are all set to take part in the second SNLF.

Little Britain’s David Walliams will read from his latest book The Billionaire Boy as part of the launch of the Stoke Newington Kids’ Literary Festival, which will also feature comic poet John Hegley.

"When I set it up I was aware that lots of people would think of a literary festival as dry and dusty,” said festival director Liz Vater.

“But these cultural commentators make a huge impact by being incredibly funny. Last year was a sell-out so we’ve made the programme bigger and more eclectic, focusing in on some of the area’s most influential residents and trying to keep the spirit of radical thinking, great ideas and debate alive.”

Created to celebrate the area’s long and influential literary history and to keep the spirit of radical thinking, debating and story-telling alive, North-east London’s increasingly popular festival highlights those who have helped put Stoke Newington on the cultural map, in particular Edgar Allen Poe and Mary Wollstonecraft.

Also participating will be some of the UK’s most exciting debut novelists, comprising a stimulating line-up of poets, as well as an eye-wateringly diverse programme that covers ska, dissent, cycling, punk, gangs and ghosts.

Participating writers, authors, historians, storytellers and performers all share the love of the written and spoken word, and exude inspirational and universal appeal.
