Lions Squad is Announced

1 May 2013

The 2013 British Lions Squad has been announced and Welsh player, Sam Warburton will Captain the team.

The 2013 British Lions squad is made up of fifteen Welshmen, ten players from England, nine from Ireland and three from Scotland. Their first game will take place in Hong Kong on the 1st of June against the Barbarians and they will play 10 matches overall, the other nine matches will take place in different cities in Australia.

There always tends to be controversy over the team picked and this year has been no different, some fans believe that Jonny Wilkinson should have been chosen to play in the 2013 squad. Former Lions player and speaker, Will Greenwood , tweeted after the announcement was made saying, “The Irish will be cross no Best, The Scots no Brown, The English no Wilkinson or Robshaw, The Welsh that the entire 37 man party isn't Welsh”.

Another former Lions player, Matt Dawson , tweeted his excitement for the players waiting to hear about the squad; “What a morning for rugby players. Boyhood dreams will be made at 11am when Lions are selected. Btw there WILL be a shock inclusion/exclusion”.
