We welcome the Rio Paralympics 2016

7 September 2016

After the spectacular success of the Olympic Games in Rio 2016, many will be waiting with baited breath for the Paralympic opening ceremony tonight. The celebration will showcase Rio’s finest song and dance again, while paving the way for the world’s greatest Paralympic athletes.

The Games will consist of 11 intense days of 23 different sports, with 225 medals up for grabs for women, 265 for men and 38 mixed medals, there is certainly all to play for.

Alongside Paralympian training in Rio, there has been the crowdfunded  #FillTheSeats initiative designed to enable local children to watch some of the Games. The campaign had fundraised a considerable amount, but Prince Harry, former soldier and founder of the Invictus games  made a donation to the initiative, taking them close to their target of getting 10,000 children to the games.

Many of the Invictus games athletes will be taking part in the Paralympics and we look forward to watching their performances, alongside the globe’s best Paralympic talent.
