Featured inventor on BBC2’s Big Life Fix, Jude is a technologist & physical prototyping expert who’s worked at Dyson, Sugru, LEGO. He is passionate about inclusive design, and helping companies shape their futures through design thinking, and novel use of technologies.

Jude’s eclectic career and global experiences have helped him engage new audiences to appreciate the potential of exploring new innovations. After interning in California and Hong Kong, Jude completed his final year project with the NHS, and soon joined Dyson.

Having ‘cut his teeth’ in design for manufacture, and extensive user testing, he progressed to Dyson’s New Product Ideas, where he and one other young engineer co-designed the AM10 Humidifier, a first of its kind, as well as being part of the first ‘Stick Vac’ or DC35 as it was known.

Following a number of patents and a CEng chartership at Dyson, he was offered an opportunity to join Sugru.com. He grew the company’s R&D team as well as running 6-figure scale-up projects to take the company from hand-packing to automation.

Jude joined LEGO’s new Partnering Team in 2017. He found himself helping LEGO expand its awareness of not just new tech, trends, and engaging directly with communities which forster breakthrough creations.

Jude now enjoys greater latitude of work from Social Media to Neuroscience, while also helping companies find new ways to stay relevant and make sense of complex new societal shifts and emergent platforms. He has also created a Design Modelling website and ran workshops. This allowed him to be recruited on marketing stunts, such as sending superman dolls into space for RS Component and Warner Brothers.

Jude has worked alongside other creatives in BBC2’s Big Life Fix, helping design playground for blind (and sighted) children, through to creating bespoke devices for a terminally ill photographer, and a hairdresser without the full use of one hand. Most recently he’s been engaged as a Technology and Prototyping Expert s Sir David Jason’s Great British Inventions on Channel 4. In this 4-part series, Jude re-created prototypes of pioneering inventions (Edison/Swan Lightbulbs, Faraday’s Motors, Rockets, etc.) from household items as a provocation that innovation can start cheaply, with good ideas and testing.

He now works as an independent consultant, on both specialised scouting for large companies, and also larger design thinking and modelling projects for start-ups, agencies and corporations alike.
