Critically acclaimed author, presenter, and nuclear chemist Dr Tim Gregory is passionate about science and how it benefits society. He believes that nuclear energy is the only solution to reaching Net Zero. When he’s not in a lab measuring the chemistry and radioactivity of nuclear materials, he’s usually sharing his deep knowledge and enthusiasm for science with the media and audiences of all sizes and ages.
Dr Tim Gregory works full time as a nuclear chemist in the heart of the British nuclear industry at Sellafield. His work touches on many of the biggest challenges that beset our modern world, including: net zero, future energy resources, space exploration, and nuclear medicine.
Tim has an academic background and now works in industry. After completing his PhD at the University of Bristol, Tim became a doctoral researcher at the British Geological Survey in Nottingham (2019–2020). His academic research focused on the formation of the Solar System using meteorites and isotopics. He now applies his analytical and numerical skills to solving problems in nuclear science.
In 2017, Tim surpassed thousands of qualified applicants for a place in the six-part BBC2 series ‘Astronauts: Do You Have What It Takes?’, where he was put through the full rigors of astronaut selection – of which he reached the top three.
He has since presented segments about meteorites on BBC4’s ‘The Sky at Night’, presented science on BBC Bitesize Daily, and has made live television appearances on BBC Breakfast, BBC Look North, and BBC Points West; also appearing regularly on local and national radio to discuss events in the world of nuclear, science, and space.
He released his debut book ‘Meteorite: How Stones from Outer Space Made Our World’ was published in 2020 and received critical acclaim, including glowing reviews in the New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
Tim is passionate about science and how it can benefit human progress. He regularly speaks to audiences of all sizes and ages on topics including nuclear science, energy, net zero, planetary science, the importance of science in society, and how a scientific mindset can be applied in business.
