Dharshini David

Dharshini David, the BBC’s Global Trade Correspondent, is a highly experienced broadcaster and economist. Dharshini, who began her career as a Government economist before moving to HSBC Investment Bank as their UK Economist, is adept at both holding policymakers to account and explaining the complex financial world to the public.

Dharshini took her first steps in the broadcasting world reporting for the BBC in London, before presenting Panorama and heading to New York to host the channel’s Wall Street coverage during the financial crisis. Sky News viewers will have also seen Dharshini appear on the channel, which included a spell alongside Adam Boulton presenting “Sky News Tonight”.

In January 2020, Dharshini was appointed the BBC’s Global Trade Correspondent. Prior to this, Dharshini presented the business news on Radio 4’s Today programme and appeared across the BBC’s national radio, TV and online channels covering the economy.

Dharshini has advised the Tesco board and its CEO Sir Terry Leahy on their broadcast media strategy, was an economic consultant to Daiwa Bank and sat as a non-executive member of one the Financial Conduct Authority’s boards.

Dharshini is the author of the “The Almighty Dollar” (Elliott & Thompson 2018) which explains in accessible terms the economic foundations that underpin the modern world. Dharshini’s wealth of experience, both on the trading floor and behind the camera, means she is a highly regarded conference chair and speaker for corporate events.
