What can a typical corporate audience learn from your experiences?

How their business will be impacted in the next few years and beyond by macro changes. The firms that dominated the last twenty years were those that rose to the challenge of globalization, technology, and deregulation. The firms that succeed in the next twenty years will be those that seize the opportunities created by slow growth, shifting economic geography, sustainability and demographic change.

How did the corporate speaking begin?

I have always been passionate about economics and believe that it is of critical importance for senior leadership to understand the broad-based macro forces that will determine corporate performance in both the short and the long run. I am also passionate that Economics doesn’t do a good job of communicating. So corporate speaking has always been something I feel strongly about – finding in accessible terms ways of explaining why businesses need to look out and what they need to look out for.

Which event has been your favourite, and why?

Too many to mention one in particular – whether it be US, China, the Middle East or Africa the best times come when businesses open up and really connect with an open mind to the broad macro shifts I articulate.

What do you do to ensure your presentation has a lasting impact?

Just boiling things down to a logical essence and putting that together in a brief and accessible way. Things happen for a reason and if you can explain those reasons clarity of thought leads to sharpness of action.
