Leaving America and American politics, Rubin migrated across the pond and has been appointed scholar in residence at Oxford University’s Rothermere American Institute, whilst also perusing his career as an author.

During the 2004 Presidential general election, James Rubin served as Senior Foreign Policy Adviser to Senator John Kerry and as Senior Foreign Policy Adviser to General Wesley Clark during the primaries. He was Director of Foreign Policy for the Clinton/Gore '96 Campaign and from 1993 until 1996, Mr. Rubin served as Senior Adviser and Spokesman for the U.S. Representative to the United Nations.

From 1989-1993, he was a Professional Staff Member on the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and prior to that he was the Research Director for the non-profit Arms Control Association in Washington, D.C.

With his background and perspective on foreign affairs and his personal experiences during negotiations spanning the globe, from the Middle East and Iraq to Russia and China, James will give your audience insight into policies and initiatives that impact the world.

He also shares his insights of how the media covers world events and how the public receives news in this age of information technology.

James is a stimulating speaker with a proven track record.  He is the perfect speaker for both international and UK-based audiences.

A native of New York City, James studied Political Science from Columbia University in 1982 and has a Masters degree in International Affairs. He was the recipient of Columbia College's John Jay Award for Distinguished Professional Achievement. In April 2000, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright awarded him the State Department's highest honour, the 'Distinguished Service Award'.

In 2010 James took on a role at Bloomberg News overseeing editorial issues of Bloomberg News across the globe. After leaving this position only 10 months later, James has continued to broaden his interest in world events and international affairs through perusing lecturing roles in academia, writing extensively for publications and his own books and making TV appearances as expert commentator.
