Dr Makaziwe Mandela holds a Masters in Sociology as well as a Doctorate in Anthropology having recived a Fulbright Foreign Scholarship and Fulbright Distinguished Fellowship Award to study in the US after completing her University studies in South Africa. Dr Mandela is involved in working in many countries and holds directorships in various companies including Nestle SA and the Nelson Mandela Foundation. She is also involved in Nozala a women's investment group using the funds of the group to empower women in South Africa. She is a director of the House of Mandela Family Foundation which was set up in 2017 to improve the livelihoods of poor communities and advocate for social issues that affect African communities.
Dr Makaziwe Mandela studied sociology in her native South Afruca before being awarded scholarships to study in the US receiving a Masters in Sociology as well as a doctorate in Anthropology. She has had a full and varied career involving holding positions and directorships across the world. She has sat on the boards of a number of companies including Rand Water Services and Myriad Medical as well as holding a directorship for Nestle SA. She has been intricately involvedin developing a substantial investment portfolio within Nozala, a women's investment group, and using these funds in the economic upliftment and empowerment of women in South Africa.
Makaziwe is a consultant in training development and life skills at Self Empowement International and is currently the Chairperson of the House of Mandela which is a business she started with her daughter in 2010. She is a director of the House of Mandela Family Foundation that was set up in 2017 where the ambition of the Foundation is to improve the livelihoods of poor communities and globally advocate for social issues that affect African communities including HIV and AIDs, education, health, agriculture, women empowerment and promoting alternate energy sectors.
Dr Makaziwe Mandela was born in Johannesburg, South Africa growing up in Soweto and is the eldest daughter of Evelyn Mase and Nelson Mandela.
