Michael Fuller
Michael Fuller QPM is a trailblazing former Chief Constable whose powerful story of leadership, resilience, and inclusion continues to inspire change across sectors.
Michael Fuller QPM made history as Britain’s first Black Chief Constable, leading Kent Police from 2004 to 2010. A pioneering figure in British policing, Michael’s remarkable career spans over three decades of service, leadership and impact – both on the frontline and behind the scenes.
During his time as Chief Constable, Michael steered the force through major national and international challenges. He led the response to the Calais migration crisis and the Channel Tunnel fire, worked closely with European counterparts to combat radicalisation and terrorism, and oversaw the complex investigation and successful prosecution of those behind Britain’s biggest cash robbery.
His leadership not only delivered operational results, but helped change the culture of policing. Under his watch, Kent Police became one of the most improved forces in England and Wales and was widely recognised for its inclusive approach – reaching 4th in Stonewall’s Gay Friendly Employers Index and earning Michael personal accolades for diversity leadership from both the National Black Police Association and Personnel Today.
Earlier in his career, Michael played a key role in setting up the Met’s Racial and Violent Crime Task Force and went on to lead Operation Trident – significantly reducing gun crime in London. In 2010, after 34 years of distinguished service, he was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal.
Michael brings a rare mix of frontline experience, senior leadership, and academic insight to every stage he steps onto. Alongside his policing career, he’s earned a BA in Social Psychology, postgraduate diplomas in Law, Marketing and Criminology, and master’s degrees in Business (MBA) and Legal Practice (LLM).
As a speaker, Michael is honest, inspiring and deeply reflective. He shares raw, real stories from a lifetime of public service, opening up about the barriers he faced – and overcame – as a Black man rising through the ranks of policing. His keynotes blend powerful storytelling with practical leadership insight, leaving audiences inspired to lead with courage, integrity, and purpose.
