George Osborne

George Osborne is a former Chancellor of the Exchequer and influential political figure, now a business adviser, media leader and advocate for regional economic growth.

George Osborne is a former Chancellor of the Exchequer and a key figure in recent British political and economic history. Serving from 2010 to 2016, he was one of the longest-serving Chancellors in modern times, helping to steer the UK economy through a period of recovery and reform.

During his time in office, George oversaw a return to economic growth, a significant reduction in the deficit, record employment levels, and landmark changes to pensions and welfare. He also championed the ‘Northern Powerhouse’ – a long-term initiative to boost economic development across the North of England – and played a central role in reshaping the UK’s relationship with China.

A prominent voice in the campaign to remain in the European Union, George stepped down from government following the 2016 referendum. He has since taken on a number of high-profile roles, including editor of the London Evening Standard, Chair of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, and advisor to BlackRock’s Investment Institute. He also serves as the inaugural Kissinger Fellow at the McCain Institute for International Leadership.

George began his political career as the youngest Conservative MP elected in 2001. He went on to become Shadow Chancellor, helped lead David Cameron’s leadership campaign, and played a pivotal role in forming the UK’s first Coalition Government since WWII. In 2016, he was made a Companion of Honour by Her Majesty the Queen.

With a background in modern history from Oxford and international study at Davidson College, George Osborne brings a unique perspective to global affairs, economics and leadership – informed by his years at the heart of government and his ongoing work across business, media and policy.
