After winning an Olympic gold at the age of 20, Greg Searle’s journey to victory at the London 2012 home games – 20 years later - is one of tenacity, honesty and determination, and is replete with lessons of value to businesses across the board.

Author, motivational speaker,  executive coach and leadership development consultant, Greg’s post-rowing career is a reflection of the drive that propelled him onto the medals podium twice – with a 20 year interval!

In the 92 Olympics, the words of cox Garry Herbert from the front of the boat, “If not now, when?” inspired Greg and his brother Jonny to up the pace and to win what has been described by many as the greatest rowing race of all time.

In 2009 Greg set himself a new target – to inspire his children, Josie and Adam,  - by going for another Olympic medal.

Now an integral part of the men’s eight, Greg pushed on when the cox called “For Josie and Adam, let’s go!”. Although they took the lead, the previously unbeaten German crew inched forward, and Greg and the Brits delighted the home crowd by wining bronze. With 15 years as an executive coach under his belt, Greg’s self-awareness allowed him to fulfil his potential in London 2012. His motivation to work as part of a team allowed him to understand his crew mates and to develop trust and team strategy amidst dissent and confidence crises.

Greg is passionate about the legacy and lessons gleaned from London 2012.  He works with Access Sport, a charity supporting kids who were inspired to love sport by the Olympics, and SPARKS a charity which supports research into childhood diseases. He is an ambassador for ‘Sustainability in Sport’.
Greg runs corporate rowing events at Eton Dorney, and is a Steward and a key organiser of the Henley Royal Regatta.
