Born in Kent, sport was integral to Steve's life from an early age. Alongside this, his other great passion was exploring the countryside around his home. His interest was so great that he longed to become a either a professional sportsman or wildlife presenter.

Steve was just 23 years old when he experienced the accident that changed, completely and irrevocably, the course of his life. It was 2005 when he tripped and fell from a first-floor balcony, dislocating one of the cervical vertebrae, trapping his spinal cord, and paralysing him from the chest down.

After months of recovery Steve hit a turning point, leaving hospital and joining London Wheelchair Rugby Club. In 2006 he was awarded a place in the GB squad and in 2007 he was part of the team that won gold in the IWRF European Championships. Steve was then awarded the captaincy in 2011, and picked to lead the GB team into the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

During the build up to the games, Steve was involved in a series of Channel 4 documentaries and the Paralympic campaign, SuperHumans.

Since 2012, Steve has become increasingly present on television, for a variety of channels and in a variety of roles. He was a roving reporter on Sky Sports' Game Changers, a pundit for ITV at the BT World Wheelchair Rugby Challenge, a member of the BBC team at the Invictus Games and a member of the Channel 4 team at the Paralympic Games. In 2017, Steve also embarked on a 900 mile journey alongside five other people with different physical disabilities for BBC One series Without Limits: Vietnam.

More recently, Steve has diversified and begun to demonstrate his range as a presenter, with appearances on the BBC's Springwatch, The One Show and BBC Breakfast, and in 2017 he became the latest member of the BBC's Countryfile team. In March 2018, Steve was proud and delighted to attend the Royal Television Society West of England Awards and receive the award for New On Screen Talent in recognition of his work on Countryfile.
Since retiring from sport, Steve has turned his attention toward supporting others to be their best through sport, work and education. He works as a mentor and coach alongside wheelchair rugby and leading projects such as Sky Sports Living For Sport and Youth Games.

With many years' experience as a speaker, Steve's talks are deeply personal, drawing on his life journey from sustaining a spinal injury to being a Paralympic captain to emerging as a national broadcaster. With his warmth, his humour and his honesty, Steve captivates audiences, leaving them invigorated by his example.
