Camden Fringe 2016: an alternative to Edinburgh

16 August 2016

Amongst all the excitement of this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe  (where some of our team here at Speakers Corner been sussing out the latest talent), we shouldn't forget about another August celebration of theatre and  comedy  a little closer to home for London-dwellers.

This August (1st-28th) sees the 11th Camden Fringe hit the streets of Greater London. The biggest so far, with over 250 different productions at 25 venues to choose from, the performing arts festival  has come a long way since its origins in 2016 when it featured only one venue - the Etcetera Theatre.

Established ten years ago by founders Zena Barrie and Michelle Flower, the idea was to provide a creative setting for performers to test their new material - a more financially viable one than that offered in Edinburgh at the time.

Since then Camden has become known as a place of opportunity, exploration and innovation for young creatives, no matter their budget.

As with any fringe festival, the range of talent is vast and exciting – from first-timers on the entertainment  scene to the more established - and many former acts have gone on to reach new heights.

Whether you're in Scotland or London for August, we suggest you make the most of fringe fun this month!
