National Apprentice Awards 2016

25 January 2016

In Business  news:

With 2016 in full swing with National Awards in TV and Fish & Chips, and global events such as the WEF in Davos  and the Golden Globes in LA, it’s now time for the National Apprentice Awards, taking place at The Grosvenor, London on Tuesday 26th January.

Now in its twelvth year, it is run by the government’s National Apprenticeship Service, which is part of the Skills Funding Agency. It is responsible for coordinating apprenticeships  in England. According to their website the focus of the awards is split into two areas:

• Businesses that grow their own talent with apprenticeships
• Apprentices who have made a significant contribution to their workplaces

With applications being received in March last year, applicants are put through a judging process and are announced in July. Regional awards then take place with winners then being put forward for the National Awards in London.

Gloucestershire electrical business, Clarkson Evans, reaches the final for the third time with Lindsey Young (human resources and training director) speaking to SouthWestBusiness  saying that “We invest a huge amount of time and effort in apprenticeship recruitment. Young people have plenty of choices, including university, and we have to be proactive so they choose to apply to us”.

A young talented chef  from Grimsby, Dan Parkes, makes it to Tuesday’s final as a trainee chef at the Oaklands Hall Hotel's Comfy Duck restaurant, in Laceby. Speaking to the Grimsby Telegraph Dan said he owes his development to his employer adding that “what's good about this place – they're not afraid of letting you have a go at something else and they support you with whatever you want to do”.

For full details of the event and how to enter for next year’s event, all details can be found on the National Apprentice website .
