Beginning her TV career as a hostess for the ITV game show Wheel of Fortune, she became a popular personality and the offers started flooding in. She began work for the BBC presenting The Travel Show and Holiday before moving on to Holiday, Holiday Swaps and eventually becoming the face of The National Lottery for three years.
It was then she moved on to the show that she is most famous for, Changing Rooms, the flagship DIY show that was the first reality show of its kind. The show earned Carol a National TV Award, a BAFTA nomination, led to invitations to Buckingham Palace and Downing Street and landed her the big red book on This is Your Life.
More recently, Carol has presented shows such as Dream Holiday Homes for Channel Five, A Brush with Fame on ITV, seeking out Britain’s best amateur portrait painter and had her own quiz show, Postcode Challenge. She has also guest starred on Have I Got News for You, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross and took part in Strictly Come Dancing, finishing in fifth place.
Carol’s talents don’t end there. She has written her own book with Eileen Fursland, Carol Smillie’s Working Mum’s Handbook, looking at the issues and practical problems of being a working Mum and has written columns for Woman’s Own and The Sunday Times.
More recently, Carol has gone in a new direction and turned her hand to business. In 2012 she launched her new company, DiaryDoll, with friend and former tennis professional Annabel Croft, bringing an innovative product, never seen before in Europe, to market.
Having hosted the Duke of Edinburgh’s 80th birthday at the Royal Albert Hall, Carol is a popular and experienced host for corporate events and award ceremonies.
