One of the leading athletes of a generation, Kriss Akabusi is a leading motivational speaker, drawing on both his life experiences along with his sporting achievements. Kriss has appeared on a raft of television programmes, having presented The Big Breakfast and Record Breakers. He has also appeared as a panellist on televisions shows such as A Question of Sport and Never Mind the Buzzcocks, making Kriss Akabusi a perfect choice as Awards Host.
Known internationally for his achievements in athletics - his greatest individual triumph was his Gold medal in the 1990 European Championships when he also beat David Hemery’s 22 year old British Record – Kriss was a sportsman first, and celebrity second. His international career kicked off in 1983 when he was a member of the 4 x 400 metre relay squad. He will always be remembered for helping Britain clinch the Gold and beat the Americans in the World Championships 4 x 400 metre relay in Tokyo in 1991.
In 1992, as 3 times Olympic medalist, World, European and Commonwealth Champion, Kriss was awarded the MBE by
Her Majesty The Queen in her Birthday Honours List in recognition of his services to the country through athletics.
Kriss’ TV break came in 1993 at The Big Breakfast, which led to a hosting slot on Record Breakers. He has since appeared regularly on various TV and radio shows and is a household name.
Life started in a children’s home for Kriss, where he thrived, and after a stint in the army, the lure of competitive sport was too strong to resist.
