Dr. Shirley Yu

Dr. Shirley Yu, with a PhD in Economics from Peking University, started her career with investment bank Merrill Lynch in the US. In 2009, a career ambition to become the “voice” of China’s new economic language to the world has led her to join CCTV (China Central Television) News. She hosted the morning news bulletins, daily Wall Street market news wrap-ups.

Over the years as an experienced news anchor and speaker, Shirley has moderated and dialogued with global icons including Dr. Alan Greenspan, Dr. Larry Summers, Steve Forbes, former Prime Minister David Cameron, former Prime Minister Bob Hawke, heads of states and governments, CEOs, and ambassadors on Chinese economy and the world.

She is also a frequent moderator at numerous global business and finance forums, including the Boao Forum for Asia, United Nations World Investment Forum, Committee of 100 Conference, Asia Pacific Financial Conference, Australian institute of Company Directors Conference, among many. Shirley continues as a business entrepreneur and independent financial host to connect China and Chinese private businesses with the world.

Shirley has a PhD in political economy from China’s Peking University, and a Master’s degree in Government from Harvard University. She has three books published in Chinese, including On China, by Ambassadors, and the Rise of the RMB and the Fall of the Yen. Shirley is fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
