Ian Livingstone CBE

Ian Livingstone was the co-founder Games Workshop, co-creator of Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, and the man behind Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Ian sits on the Governments Creative Industry Council, alongside many other creative bodies. His knowledge makes Ian a fantastic keynote speaker, and his understanding of creative industries makes him an ideal host for creative or tech events.

Ian Livingstone is one of the founding fathers of the UK games industry, the co-founder of Gamebook series Fighting Fantasy. One of the leading figures in gaming, Ian successfully mixes business with fantasy.

In the Wired 100 list for 2012, he was ranked the 16th most influential person in the UK’s digital economy, and in 2015 he was listed as one of the 500 most influential people in UK in The Sunday Times.

He co-founded iconic games company Games Workshop in 1975, launching Dungeons & Dragons in Europe and the Games Workshop retail chain.

He co-authored The Warlock of Firetop Mountain in 1982, the first Fighting Fantasy gamebook in the series which has sold over 17 million copies to date in 30 languages.

He designed Eureka, the first computer game published by Domark in 1984. He joined the board in 1992 as a major investor, overseeing a merger that created Eidos plc in 1995 where he served as Executive Chairman until 2002.  At Eidos he launched major franchises including Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

He co-authored the Next Gen review published by NESTA in 2011, recommending changes in ICT education policy, spearheading a campaign that led to the introduction of the new Computing curriculum in Schools.

He is Founder of The Livingstone Foundation, Chairman of Playdemic Ltd, Chairman of Midoki Ltd, Chairman of PlayMob Ltd, Chair of Skillset’s Video Games Council, Chair Next Gen Skills Committee, Vice Chair of UKIE, Member of the Creative Industries Council, Trustee of GamesAid and an Adviser to the British Council. He was appointed OBE in 2006, and received a BAFTA Special Award, a British Inspiration Award, the Develop Legend Award, an Honorary Doctorate of Arts by Bournemouth University and an Honorary Doctorate of Technology by Abertay University, Dundee for his contribution to the UK computer and video games industry. He was appointed CBE in the 2013 New Year Honours list.

Ian is an Advisory Board Member of Bossa Studios, Advisory Board Member of Fusebox Games, Member of the Creative Industries Council, Patron of Creative Skillset, Vice President Special Effect, Patron of GamesAid, Member of Raspberry Pi Foundation, and Patron of The National Videogames Foundation.
