Kitty Ussher Biography

Former Government Minister and economist, Kitty Ussher was MP for Burnley for five years from 2005 and held ministerial posts in the Treasury and the Department for Work and Pensions, including Economic Secretary to the Treasury in the early stages of the economic downturn.

After leaving Parliament in 2010, Kitty has taken on roles including chief economist and director of Demos, and as instigator and manager of public policy research projects on a freelance basis for the Smith Institute, the Centre for London and the Social Market Foundation. She is Chief Economics Advisor to Portland Communications and a member of The CityUK’s Independent Economists’ Group.

In 2013, Kitty set up Tooley Street Research to grow an independent public policy research company.

With an MSc in Economics from the University of London and a degree in Politics and Economics from Oxford University,...
