One half of the Mr. and Mrs. Smith team, Tamara Lohan has taken a business idea and turned it into one of the UK’s most successful ‘aspirational but still accessible’ accommodation brands, earning her an MBE for services to the British travel industry. Tamara is Founder and CEO of Mr & Mrs Smith, the boutique hotel specialists. An entrepreneur with a background in marketing. In 2003 she co-founded Mr & Mrs Smith with her husband James, and has been responsible for evolving the company’s digital infrastructure ever since.
Pivoting from publishing house to online travel agent in 2005, as CTO she oversaw the development of Mr & Mrs Smith’s in-house booking engine and proprietary availability-management systems, alongside the iOS app, Alexa voice skill and responsive global website. In 2016 Mr & Mrs Smith acquired a villa company, and in 2018 added an experiences company called SideStory.
As her career progressed, Tamara worked in the marketing departments of major international brands including Swissair, Honda, Unilever and Ericsson, and honed her technical knowledge through many data-driven projects, including building large CRM databases through online channels.
Today, Smith operates from London, New York, LA and Singapore, and has more than 1.5 million members worldwide. Tamara and her husband were awarded MBEs for services to the British travel industry. In 2018 Mr & Mrs Smith raised £6m through crowdfunding on Crowdcube - it was both one of the fastest and highest raises seen on the platform to date.
On April 2nd at the height of the Covid19 crisis, Tamara took over the helm as CEO of the company. She frequently speaks on entrepreneurship, resilience, the subjects of women in technology and business and balancing parenting with career progression. She has invested in startups and is a non-executive director at Not on The High Street, the online marketplace for small creative businesses.
