Julie began her career working for Cunningham Communications Inc in Boston; she worked as a consultant for Motorola and PowerPC Alliance. She has also worked as a consultant for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and Hewlett Packard.
In 1998 Julie moved to London and began working for NewMedia Investors, where she became an advisor to numerous established companies. Along with a few others Julie began organising networking events on the first Tuesday of every month; it became known as ‘First Tuesday’ and soon spread to seventeen other cities in Europe.
Julie continued to expand her career; she left First Tuesday to set up Ariadne Capital, a company which allows entrepreneurs to help entrepreneurs. Ariadne Capital was aimed at helping media start-up companies such as Skype, Espotting and more recently Beatthatquote.com. In 2009 Julie decided it was time for a new venture and she set up Entrepreneur Country; a network of investors, entrepreneurs and media partners. This company allows investors and entrepreneurs to exchange information and meet relevant business connections.
Julie has a passion for new businesses and helping them to grow around the UK and further afield, her abilities have been acknowledged and she received awards including ‘Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year', World Economic Forum ‘Global Leader of Tomorrow’ and a place in the Wall Street Journal's ‘Top 30 Most Influential Women in Europe’.
Julie also works as a Dragon on BBC’s online ‘Dragons Den’ and has written for various publications including Business Week, Computing, FT Digital Business, Spectator Business, Julie is also appears regularly on the BBC and CNBC and writes a column for Market Magazine.
In 2011, Julie became a member of the Secretary of State's Entrepreneurs Panel and the Secretary of Health's Innovation Panel. Her hard work was rewarded in 2012 when she received an honorary MBE for her ‘services to entrepreneurship’, the same year she had her first book ‘Welcome to Entrepreneur Country’, published.
Julie was named as one of Brummell Magazine’s 30 Inspirational Women Entrepreneurs of 2014.
